Add a new data source to start importing data points into the portal. After setup, the data will be available for visualization, monitoring, alerting, and reporting. For general information on data sources, see Data sources / data logger.

General instructions: Add a data source
Prerequisites
-
User group technical customer or higher
-
The data source must be online
Steps
-
At system level , go to
System settings >
Data sources > Overview.
-
Select +Add data source.
-
Select the kind of data source your are using in your system. See What type of data source to add?
-
Fill in all empty fields.
-
The information required for each manufacturer will vary, but may include a device name, hardware serial number, measuring interval, API, or FTP information. For detailed configurations, see also:
-
Access data: Any access data required here, such as username or password, refers to the respective data source and not to VCOM.
-
Name: In most cases, the name of the data source can be freely selected. For recommendations, see our Naming guideline.
-
Measuring interval: Set the actual measuring interval of your local data logger or other data source. To learn more about the measuring interval concept, see Measuring interval.
-
Tick the check box Automatic device creation. This will automatically create new devices in the system, such as inverters or batteries, as soon as their data is included in a new import file. It is not possible to manually create these devices. In rare exceptional cases, for example, if the devices are already included in another system, you do not need to tick this checkbox.
-
-
Select +Add or Register new data logger.
What happens?
-
The data source is now added to the data sources overview. See Data sources overview.
-
From now on, new data is imported into the portal.
-
For each device included in your import files, a device is created under
System settings >
Data sources > [Data source name] > [Device type]. Corresponding data points are stored accordingly. See also Devices and Available data points and categories.
-
Depending on the actual frequency of the data import in the next three days, the transmission interval is calculated. See also Transmission interval.
Recommendation
Verify that the data source has successfully transmitted to the portal’s server. See Verify data transmission to the portal's server.
Note for string inverters
Strings of newly imported string inverters are initially deactivated. Perform an automatic update of their activity status. See Automatically update the activity status of string inverter input strings.
Further actions
-
Specify the operational data for the devices that were automatically created during the first data import. For example, assign the inverters to the subsystems. See Inverters, String inverter inputs, SCBs/String combiner boxes, Other devices, Battery devices.
-
Continue with your entire system setup. See Set up a new system.
