Power limitation at grid connection point

Last modified:

Note

The content on this page refers only to the blue'Log XC combined with the Hybrid EMS licence.

Introduction

The active power limitation function ensures that the maximum feed-in and/or import power is
not exceeded at the grid connection point (GCP). This function is separated into two sub-functions
that can be individually configured:

  • Feed-in limitation

  • Import limitation

Both functions are autonomous: no external commands are required.

Feed-in limitation

The feed-in limitation function ensures that the maximum feed-in power is not exceeded at the measuring point (usually the grid connection point).

This limitation is necessary when the installed active power Pinst of the generating plant is greater than the maximum permissible feed-in power. The blue’Log monitors the current feed-in power and adjusts the power of the inverters accordingly to comply with the configured feed-in limit (e.g., by curtailing the inverters).

Example

A PV system is installed to cover the electricity demand of a local load. However, the grid operator specifies a maximum allowed feed-in power of 500 kW. To better meet the on-site energy needs, the system owner decides to install 700 kW of PV power. As a result, the installed power exceeds the permitted feed-in limit. During periods of low consumption and high solar generation, this control function ensures that the feed-in power is automatically reduced to comply with the 500 kW limit.

Note

In some countries, an additional external protection device is required that disconnects the system if the maximum permissible feed-in power is exceeded for a specified duration. For more information about the rules in Germany, see PAV,E.

Import limitation

The import limitation function ensures that the maximum allowed import power is not exceeded at the measuring point (usually the grid connection point).

This limitation is necessary when the installed active power Pinst of the loads is greater than the maximum permissible import power. The blue’Log monitors the current import and adjusts the power of the inverters accordingly to comply with the predefined limit (e.g. limiting the charging power of the battery).

Configure power limitation at the grid connection point

Prerequisites
  • Hybrid EMS license

  • A meter is installed

Steps
  1. Navigate to Power control > Active power > Power limitation at grid connection point.

  2. If relevant, activate the toggle for Feed-in limitation.

  3. Enter the feed-in limit in kW.

  4. If relevant, activate the toggle for Import limitation.

  5. Enter the import limit in kW.

Power limitation is now activated.
