Transformer

About transformers

A transformer is an electrical device that converts voltage levels. It is often used, for example, in C&I and utility-scale projects. A transformer can be viewed as an assembly containing devices such as protection devices, status DI external, sensors, and meters.

To carry out predictive maintenance, it must be possible to monitor transformers.

The blue’Log supports two main types of transformers:

  • Assembly of devices

    • You can logically group devices in blue’Log manually.

  • All-in-one assemblies

    • Also known as “turnkey stations” or “container solutions”.

    • Possible to automatically scan for the entire assembly as a “virtual device”.

    • Devices are logically grouped automatically.

Add a transformer

Prerequisites

  • Ensure compatibility: See Compatibility check.

    • All-in-one assemblies: The transformer assembly is compatible with blue'Log.

    • Assembly of devices: All sub-devices are compatible with blue'Log

  • Sub-device setup: Ensure that all sub-devices, such as meters, are set up on blue’Log.

  • Your blue'Log is connected to the network, and the device has been physically connected.

  • The basic configuration of your blue'Log has been completed. See Getting started.

  • All blue'Log updates have been performed. See Update.

  • Add-on modules, if required, are connected. See Add-on modules.

Tip

Give the device and its sub-devices related names so you can identify them easily. See also Naming guideline.

Assembly of devices

Steps

  1. Go to Devices > Transformer.

  2. Under Installed devices, select the Plus icon.

  3. Give the transformer a name.

  4. If the transformer is connected to a substation, select the substation to which the transformer is connected under Connected to (optional).

  5. Select Save.

  6. Go to Devices > Meter or other category of sub-devices physically connected to the transformer.

  7. Under Installed devices, select the Pencil icon next to a device.

  8. Under Connected to, select the relevant transformer or substation.

  9. Repeat for all other connected devices.

The assembly of devices is set up.

All-in-one assemblies

Steps

  1. Go to Devices > Transformer.

  2. Select the device and its relevant properties using the drop-down menus.

  3. Select Add.

  4. Select Start scan.

  5. The scan will detect the connected sub-devices.

The transformer is set up.

Further actions

Once the transformer is set up, you can:

  • View which devices are connected to the transformer in the Connected to column under Installed devices.
