About smart alarms

Centralized alarm management

  • VCOM provides centralized management of alarms for your entire portfolio.

  • Choose from a range of sophisticated alarms to suit your individual needs.

  • At-a-glance view in the control room highlights the systems that require your immediate attention. The color-coded image-20250127-105125.png Alarm icons in the system list indicate systems with open alarms. Critical alarms are represented in red. Right-click on this icon to perform quick actions.

  • The designated Alarms portlet provides detailed information about your alarms. See Alarms portlet.

  • When you close an alarm, either manually or via Auto-close, incidents associated with that alarm will not trigger another alarm.

Configuring alarms

  • Configure alarms within the settings of an individual system, then transfer the settings to your other systems.

  • Define three different severities (normal, critical, and high)

  • Choose whether to trigger the alarm 24/7 or only between sunrise and sunset in your time zone.

  • Optionally configure an alarm delay, which only triggers an alarm in case of persistent incidents.

Note

For certain alarms, you may also need to edit additional system settings, such as Data sources or Calculations.

Time-saving features

  • Directly transform an alarm into a ticket

  • Mute alarms for specific components

  • Auto-close alarms that have been resolved

VCOM procedure from incident to work order

Different sample procedures from incidents to work orders

Different sample procedures from incidents to work orders

  • VCOM logs an Incident when the configured trigger criteria of a specific alarm are met for the first time. When the criteria persist to be met this incident will be updated continuously. Some incidents only occur for a short time and do not require further action. As soon as the trigger criteria are not met anymore, the incident is closed automatically. You can view all incidents in the Incidents portlet.

  • An Alarm is only triggered for persistent incidents that still occur after a configured delay period. Unlike an incident, normally an alarm is not closed automatically even if the underlying incident already closed. That is why a new incident of the same type and on the same component will be linked with the already existing alarm without delay. You can view all alarms in the Alarms portlet. To configure auto-close settings for alarms as well, see Smart alarms.

Note

A device error alone, for example, an inverter error, will not trigger an alarm. However, if the inverter is faulty, it will lead to misproduction, which triggers a misproduction alarm, and the inverter error will be linked to that alarm.

  • Tickets are created manually or automatically. They can be based on an alarm, originate from an Automation, or be created independently. Group multiple alarms into a single ticket if desired. You can view all tickets in the Tickets portlet. See also Ticket system.

  • CMMS ONLY Link Work orders with your tickets and assign them to a technical team. Work orders are specific service or maintenance tasks carried out on site. You can view all work orders in the Work orders portlet. See also Manage work orders.

How to transfer settings for alarms

Once you have set up your alarms for one system, you can transfer the settings to other systems of your choice. This eliminates the need to configure each system individually, saving time and ensuring consistency.

Prerequisites
  • You have set up at least one alarm

Steps
  1. On the sidebar at the system level, hover over the system you wish to use as a template.

  2. Select the image-20250127-105422.png System configuration

  3. Select Monitoring > Transfer settings.

  4. A window opens. Select whether you wish to transfer just the alarms, or the Auto-close (Autopilot) feature as well.

  5. Select the systems for which you wish to apply the settings and select Save.

  6. Your settings will now be transferred to the systems you selected.
