Modules and user groups

VCOM is built in modules that you can purchase based on different partnership service levels or as additional license-based modules. But the people in your organization have different responsibilities and therefore do not need or should not have access to all parts of your VCOM. With user groups you can restrict or allow access to certain VCOM parts. Group users with the same responsibilities into the same user group.

Standard user groups

VCOM provides six standard user groups with fixed access rights. You can not edit these rights or delete a standard group.

Administrator

Have most access and operating rights. Above the administrator user group, there is only the super-admin, but this is not a configurable user group.

Caution

This user group should only be reserved for a very limited number of users, because they can access and edit sensitive data.

Operations

Have all rights necessary for the operational business on portfolio and system level.

Example

Technical operation manager

Technician

Have system- and data logger-related rights.

Example

External service technician

Technical customer

Have limited system-related rights.

Example

System owner

Customer

Have rights to view system-related information.

Investor

Have rights to view only the most important system and performance information.

Two ways to define rights

The rights of user groups are granted or restricted in two different ways: On the one hand in terms of their Administration access and on the other hand in terms of their privileges to see certain User group modules.

Whether a user can see a certain function can depend on a combination of granted administration rights, module privileges, and also the service level of your organization.

Examples

  • To see the Power flow administration page in the system configurations, the following rights must be granted:

    • Administration access level: Administrator, or Operations (All settings for user-defined groups), or Technician (System and data logger settings for user-defined groups), or Technical customer (System settings for user-defined groups).

    • User group module: View privilege for the Power control module.

  • To create user-defined ticket causes, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

    • Service level: Premium partner

    • Administration access level: Administrator

Administration access

Administration access is the level at which members of a user group can configure administrative settings. It mainly determines which features or pages are visible and usable at PORTFOLIO LEVEL under icon-cog1(1).png Administration and at SYSTEM LEVEL under icon-wrench1.png System configuration. Only one level is possible per user group.

See Administration access levels for detailed rights per standard user group.

Module privileges

Module privileges are the rights to View, Create, Delete, or Change certain parts and functionalities of the portal. Members of a user group can be allowed or denied privileges for multiple modules.

User group modules do not necessarily reflect license-based VCOM modules, such as the KPI editor or Automation, because restrictions for these modules may be handled only with the administration access rights, as functionalities appear only on administration pages.

See User group modules and privileges for detailed rights per standard user group.
