About impersonation

Impersonation allows authorized users to temporarily access mc Cloud as another user. This can be useful for troubleshooting issues, setting up the user interface for them, or understanding a user's experience without requiring their credentials.

Impersonate a user

Prerequisites

• You have the user role admin in mc Cloud.

• The user you want to impersonate is not an admin.

Steps

Start impersonation

1. Navigate to the Users page. To get there, you have two options:

   • Select your avatar in the top bar, then select Users.

   • Or select Go to Users page in the footer of the Recent sign-ins widget on your dashboard.

2. Select Actions for the user you want to impersonate.

3. Select Impersonate user and confirm your action. You can not impersonate other admins.

The impersonation session is now running for 30 min.

• A timer in mc Cloud’s top bar displays the remaining time of your impersonation session.

• During the session, you can manage this user’s entire account in mc Cloud.

• During the sessions, you can access this user’s meteocontrol applications, for example, to modify tabs and portlets in VCOM.

End impersonation

• After 30 min, a window pops up in mc Cloud and you have two options:

• • Restart the session for another 30 minutes. The session timer will reset.

  • Sign out from this user’s account to fully end the impersonation session.

• You can also end the session at any time before the timer runs out by selecting the user’s avatar in the mc Cloud top bar and select Sign out.

The impersonation is over now. If you want to continue working with your own account, you must sign in again with your own sign-in credentials.

Impersonate a pending user

If you have created a new user and you want to further configure their accounts before they even activated their account, you can also impersonate them while their account status is still PENDING .

• To impersonate a pending user, follow the regular steps to do so. See Impersonate a user.

• Note the following differences to impersonating a user with the account status active:

  • As long as the impersonation session is active, the user can not activate their account. Meaning, the link in the initial activation email they received upon creation is not working during that time.

  • After the impersonation session has ended, the link in the initial activation email will be working again. Additionally, the pending user will receive another email asking them to activate their account. So, activation links in both email will work.
