Power plant controller

Last modified:

A power plant controller (PPC) is a means to control plant behavior in terms of production levels, revenue, grid compliance, grid stability, and safety. It is used to regulate and control the networked inverters, devices, and equipment of a system, to meet specified setpoints and change grid parameters at the point of interconnection (POI). Operators can communicate these setpoints and parameters to the PPC, either directly or via a SCADA center.

If you are using the blue'Log XC as a PPC, it is automatically added after the power control function is activated. If you are using an external, third-party PPC and the data will be used for monitoring, it must be configured under Devices > Power plant controller.

Add a new power plant controller

Prerequisites

  • The power plant controller is compatible with blue'Log. See Compatibility check. If the type is not supported, contact Sales.

  • To use this function, you need an External PPC license. See also License.

  • Your blue'Log is connected to the network and the power plant controller has been physically connected.

  • The basic configuration of your blue'Log has been completed. See Getting started.

  • All blue'Log updates have been performed. See Update.

  • Add-on modules, if required, are connected. See Add-on modules.

Steps

  1. Go to DevicesPower plant controller.

  2. Using the drop-down menus, select the Manufacturer (vendor) of the device you are scanning for.

  3. Alternatively, using the drop-down menus, select the device type (Series) of the device.

  4. Select an interface. The interface settings will depend on the connection type. See the table below for explanations of the abbreviations.

  5. Adjust the interface settings.

  6. To scan for a device, select Start scan. Select the Show details window to display the scan log.

  7. The devices found appear under Installed devices

Note

Beta-version drivers have not been tested in the field and may not be fully functional. Drivers in the beta phase are grayed out and can only be activated by contacting meteocontrol support.

Note

In most cases, interface settings can be found in the manufacturer documentation or the device itself. If you do not know the bus address, you can activate the Use range toggle to scan the blue'Log bus. For questions regarding the best baud rates to choose for a device, please contact the manufacturer.
